ABOUT

Pine cones growing from the branch of a pine tree, surrounded by pine needles

As you may have guessed, Pine needle oil comes from Pine trees! Unlike the Pine Needle Tea, the oil is distilled from the bark. [74] Its properties and uses are a little different to the Pine Needle tea so I have added this as a separate listing.

This cleansing and refreshing oil has been used medicinally since ancient Greece, for alleviating pain and stress and increasing energy, and Hippocrates was known to use it to treat the pulmonary and respiratory system. [74][75]

The oil is mainly used externally, but some people advocate its use as an internal cleaner to stimulate the digestive organs, cleanse the liver and flush out toxins. It has also been studied, where endocrine treatment has been unsuccessful, as a chemoprotective agent for mammary tumors. [72][74][76]

HOW TO USE

External

Combine a few drops with carrier oil to massage into your skin for aches, dandruff or skin issues. Combine with Eucalyptus and rub onto chest for allergic and respiratory issues.

Inhalation

Put 2 drops in a diffuser to breathe it in for respiratory issues. [73]

Household

You can also use pine oil as a household cleaner, to reduce your chemical load from commercial cleaners. Try mixing a few drops with some water and a little vinegar for a surface or toilet cleaner.

Internal

Use ONLY 100% pure organic oil internally. Work your way UP TO one or two drops in a cup of water only, or with lemon and raw honey.  You can also mix a drop with a spoon of honey. [72][73][74]

ALERT

Bottle of pine oil with pine needles
  • Use ONLY 100%% pure organic essential oil for internal use.
  • Be aware there is NO FDA or TGA approval for internal use of essential oils, and hence so regulation on essential oils in that manner, so use with caution.
  • Begin with a tiny amount and work up to the suggested dose while paying close attention to your body. If you have a significant load of chronic toxicity (as I do) you may notice nausea, headaches and fatigue from even a small amount, so go VERY gently.
  • For external use, always combine with carrier oil and do a patch test first as it can irritate the skin causing dermatitis, redness and itching. KEEP AWAY from delicate tissues around the eyes and inside of your nose. [74][75]
  • Due to lack of research, it is recommended to avoid using Pine Oil if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
