ABOUT

Zeolite literally translates to ‘boiled stone’. It can be naturally or artificially produced, with the most common forms found globally as Zeolite stones in the earth’s crust and volcanic areas.

Zeolites are crystalline microporous structures in the form of a tetrahedron which contain well defined negatively charged cavities making it a useful detoxification agent. With their ability to bind toxins they have many applications such as air and water treatment, agriculture, animal feed additives, nuclear waste treatment and biochemical applications. [167][168][169]

HEALTH BENEFITS

Zeolite A, or Clinoptilolite, is a stable form and one of the most common, which is most appropriate for human use. It is an adsorber of toxins, ion exchanger and detergent, as well as being anti-inflammatory and enhancing gut health. [166] Zeolite is a great aid for detoxification, and is a powerful anti-oxidant. [169]

Due to its pore size and absorption properties it binds heavy metals such as lead and mercury, and additionally ammonia, microtoxins, aflatoxins and nitrate are included in its clean up capability. [170][168] It aids the permeability of the gut and improves the ecosystem of the intestinal flora while supporting the immune system [169][170]

A study of over 50 athletes confirmed the anti-inflammatory effect and improvement of intestinal wall integrity following regular intake of Zeolite powder. [166] Studies have demonstrated reduced oxidative stress and increased Glutathione levels following oral administration of Zeolite in rats. In various studies on animals and humans Zeolites reduced the production of anti-inflammatory cytokines, decreased lipid peroxidation, and increased various Glutathione levels [167]

Zeolite also holds promise as an ally to mainstream medicine by removing toxic metabolites from chemotherapy treatment and drugs for diabetes and cardiovascular disease. [169]

HOW TO USE

This is a wonderful and surprisingly gentle (on the stomach) detoxification agent. Similarly to charcoal it is extremely porous, so it absorbs all sorts of nasties from your gut. Unlike charcoal, zeolite only seems to have an affinity for pathogens as mentioned above, without affecting trace elements an-d micro-nutrient levels.

Mix it with water and drink. It tastes a little like clay but is not as strong as Bentonite clay.

You need at least 1000mg for a dose to be therapeutic, [170] but you may wish to start at a lower dose and titrate up if you are overly sensitive.

Although it reportedly does not bind to nutrients, I prefer to use Zeolite at least an hour away from food.

ALERT

There are no known issues with Zeolite, and some doctors say you cannot take too much, however as with all supplements please follow directions on the product label and speak to your health care advisor with any concerns.
