ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Ngaire was born in Melbourne, Australia in 1947. She pursued various occupations including film editors’ assistant at the ABC television studios in Melbourne and a photographer at Macquarie University in Sydney.

At the age of thirty-seven she received a degree in Secondary Education, majoring in Music and English. She played classical guitar for fifteen years and was a member of the Melbourne Guitar Ensemble under Jochen Schubert. After seven years she retired as a Music and English teacher, and then spent her time composing, mostly for chamber ensembles. She has also completed a full length opera.

Ngaire later took up visual arts, mostly painting in watercolour and oils and became a tutor in Life Drawing classes.  She has held a number of solo exhibitions and participated in many group exhibitions over more than thirty years. She has won a number of prizes and was selected for the Salon de Refuse in Melbourne for an entry in the Archibald Portrait Prize in 2019.

For eleven years she was a voluntary tour guide at Heide Museum of Modern Art, McClelland Gallery and Sculpture Park, and Geelong Gallery outside of Melbourne.

Over the years she has been involved in the theatre as an actor, and has written a children’s play called The Wanderer which was produced in Sorrento where she lived at the time.

Ngaire continues to practice, and to teach in both disciplines when the opportunity presents itself.

Jophiel Whispers is her first book, written in Egypt where she has lived for the last two years.
