ABOUT

Bowl of dried nettle leaves

Nettle leaf tea or powder is filled with vitamins which are very easy to assimilate and supportive for the immune system. Its high chlorophyll and iron content make it an effective builder of blood. [61] It is recommended to help cleanse and detoxify the body, due to its diuretic actions and restorative effect of the kidneys and adrenals. [59][60] Nettle also purifies and thins the blood, and removes blood clots. [60] The root of Nettle can be used to improve urine flow, ease joint inflammation and control glucose levels. [59]

HOW TO USE

Foraging

When foraging the uninitiated might have a less than favorable meeting with Nettle the first time, as the hairs on its leaves and stems trigger the irritating formic acid release in the body, just like ant bites. So if you are unlucky enough to be stung by this little gem, chew up and apply some plantain or yellow dock if you can find it, or let it ease naturally.

Wear gloves if you are harvesting, and only use the tender leaves on the top 2-4 inches [61], or 3 leaf pairs. The best time to harvest is sunrise to 1pm, in Spring and Autumn, in the regions that have 4 seasons. [58]

Topical

Crushing the leaves actually deactivates the sting so once it is in this form it can be applied for consumed with ease. But crushing IS important. My friend’s mother back in her hippy days made a stinging nettle bath for her hubby to ease his arthritis. She thought the heat from the water would deactivate the sting. His roaring reaction as he bolted out of there screaming around the house in his dripping wet bright red birthday suit quickly told her otherwise. Lesson learnt!!! I don’t think he let her make any herbal treatments for him after that…

Food

To eat the leaves cook for at least 10 minutes to remove the sting, or up to 40 minutes to open up the cell walls for more nutritional availability [61]. You can also stir fry in oil (I’d recommend coconut oil or ghee) until the leaves are soft, and season to taste.

Infusion
Cup of nettle tea with fresh nettle leaves next to it

Place 1 cup of dry nettle in a liter of boiling water and let steep for four hours. Refrigerate. Drink 2 cups of this infusion per day. If it has turned sour use it as a fertilizer in your garden or as a hair rinse. [61]

Ramola D recommends 3 cups per day if you are aiming to remove mRNA lipid nano or spike proteins out of your system. [60]

ALERT

Can cause allergic reactions, can interact with medications for blood pressure, do not use during pregnancy and lactation. [59]
