ABOUT

wooden spoon in a tub of salt

MSM, which is oxidized DMSO, is an organic compound that contains 34% sulfur – the third most used chemical in the body. [93] 100% Sulfur is toxic to the body, so you need a form that you can utilize. MSM is naturally found in the body, and ingested through various unprocessed plant foods, plankton and animal foods. [95] The sulfur content available through diet has become limited due to cooking which evaporates it from our food, so often supplementation is required.

EFFECTS IN THE BODY

Before being used as a supplement on and in the body, with a focus on its anti-inflammatory action, MSM was used as a solvent, as was its parent DMSO. In the 1980s its use for skin and nails, stress, pain, parasites, energy, metabolism, circulation and wound healing was explored and patented by Dr. Herschhler, but at that stage there were minimal studies. Further investigation later on demonstrated its use for immunity, cancer, anti-oxidant, allergies and more. [98]

DETOXIFICATION

As far as priority of bodily processes go, detoxification is the first line of defense in maintaining wellness, and the body will detoxify before it hydrates. [93]

Sulfur is one of the most important nutrients for detoxification, as it aids cell permeability, allowing supplements to get in and heavy metals, waste, excess minerals and toxins to get out. [95] If you experience food an air pollution, which most of us do nowadays, your sulfur stores will be used up to detoxify. [93]

As the body ages the cells shrink which reduces permeability, so waste gets trapped inside which degrades the cell. Adding more sulfur to the diet aids rehydration of the cells so they can remove toxins efficiently again. [93]

Our main organ of detoxification, the Liver, creates sulfur rich enzymes to turn toxins into harmless particles.

ANTI-INFLAMMATORY

As well as its effect of detoxification, MSM is a potent anti-inflammatory. It moderates the release of cytokines in the body, which is important as many have experienced cytokine storms following the CV shot. [95][97]

ANTI-OXIDANT

Glutathione, our master anti-oxidant, is made in our body by amino acids that are also high in Sulfur. [94]

HOW TO USE

A great combination is to use DMSO topically, and MSM internally.

INTERNAL
Packet of MSM powder from Happy Body brand

I’ve been using MSM internally for years as an anti-inflammatory, and to help with allergies and histamine intolerance. The fun side effect is it helps with hair and nail growth too!

Standard dose is 500mg – 1200mg per day. Maximum dose is 4gm daily.

Take 30 min before and 2 hours after food and supplements for best results.

Due to the oxygenation that happens with MSM, you may be energized by it, so don’t take before going to bed. [96]

As with all detoxification, you may experience some symptoms from the die off of toxins when taking MSM. This can include lethargy, flu like feeling, allergy. Take more water, even add psyllium 30 min after MSM, to aid the body to flush out those toxins. [96]

TOPICAL

Dissolve in water and apply to skin for allergies, rosacea, varicose veins and hemorrhoids. [95]

OTHER

MSM dissolved in purified water can also be used in a nebulizer to cleanse the airways and lungs, and to brush the teeth. [96]

SOURCE

FOOD
Rich red and greed kale leaves

Many foods are high in MSM such as fruits, cruciferous vegetables, grains, beer, coffee, tea and milk.

Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM)

Sulfur is needed for the structure of every cell in the body. Hormones, enzymes, antibodies, and antioxidants all depend on it. It’s necessary to build and repair DNA. It also protects cells against oxidative free radical damage. The body uses sulfur ubiquitously, and it needs frequent replenishment for optimal nutrition.

This pharmaceutical grade methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) powder contains no fillers, taste additives, or anti-caking agents.

This product dissolves quickly in water and has a slightly bitter but not unpleasant taste. Mix with water or citrus juice. If you prefer, PureBulk offers MSM capsules
