ABOUT

Diatomaceous Earth (DE) is made from the fossilized remains of Diatoms, which are basically the exo-skeletons of oceanic algae. They are ground up into a fine powder with several applications. The cruder industrial form of diatomaceous earth is used in water filtration, food manufacturing, and farming and around the home to kill of insects such as fleas, bed bugs and lice. [22]

BENEFITS

Studies into heavy metal adsorption by DE have demonstrated its efficacy for heavy metal removal in water, and that treating it with manganese oxide greatly increased its surface area and therefor it’s cleansing capacity. [25]

The cell walls of Diatomaceous Earth are made of silica, [21] which is important in the health of nearly every part of the body, and is needed for the synthesis of collagen. [23] Due to its electrical charge it binds to toxins and free radicals for elimination through sweat, urine and feces. [22] It also acts as an effective detoxifier for aluminum and other heavy metals making it an important part of a vaccine detox. [23] Studies into the use of nano forms of silica for heavy metal poisoning have demonstrated it has a high affinity for Mercury, Cadmium and Lead, without affecting normal nutrients in tissues. [24]

The cellular structure of diatoms are varied and are sharp like glass. It’s not savage enough to injure your gut (though if you have leaky gut be gentle with it) but it smashes through the outer shell or biofilm that various parasites protect themselves with. For this reason it is fantastic for dealing with internal parasites, including some that herbs and other treatments find hard to reach. [23]

HOW TO USE

Take 1 tsp in a glass of water on an empty stomach, and then take an extra glass of water. You can use up to 1 tbsp. daily, although more than this will simply be excreted.

For an extended detoxification protocol, take Diatomaceous Earth for 10 days on, 10 days off, for 90 days. [22]

If you are using DE to detoxify, you might notice some side effects such as headache, fatigue and nausea as the body removes poisons. This is normal and should diminish within a couple of weeks. If the reaction is too strong, reduce the dose to make it more manageable on your elimination systems. Or you can split the dose into two, morning and night. [22]

ALERT

Ensure you buy food grade. There is also industrial grade which is used in farming to kill off mites etc. around farm animals. You DON’T want to eat that!

Diatomaceous Earth can irritate the lungs, and I have felt quite nauseous from accidentally inhaling the dust in the past. Be careful when spooning it into your glass of water – place it in carefully, submerge first then gently stir, rather than dropping it in, to reduce DE dust.

SOURCE

I buy it from the health food store, and have noticed many bulk food places now sell it too.
